This is a handsome quilt consisting of wonderful early cotton prints with multiple names signed, stamped or embroidered on it. The tradition was popularized in the 19th century as a means of fundraising or given as a keepsake to people moving west. However, there are many occasions that a group of friends would thoughtfully make a quilt for others. One of the "signature" pieces is dated 1898.

There is some staining, worn areas, and small areas where the stitching has become undone. However, it is strong in feel and would easily withstand being hung or draped for display. It has a thin batting and is hand-stitched and hand-knotted. Please review the photos. Thanks. less
