An early 20th century Persian Farahan Sarouk area rug in a classic medallion pattern of refined elegance. Hand-knotted circa the first quarter of the 1900s, the rug features a richly hued rust red field with pink undertones, anchored by a deep navy blue medallion that draws the eye inward with quiet authority. Corner spandrels in softly abrash French blue add a painterly dimension to the composition, framing the central motif with graceful harmony.
The navy border is beautifully adorned with geometric florets in tones of pale green, yellow, soft cream, and light blue — colors that echo throughout the field, adding depth and movement to the whole composition. The Farahan district of Western Persia was one of the premier carpet-producing regions of 19th and early 20th century Persia, celebrated for the quality of its wool, the refinement of its designs, and the extraordinary range and depth of its natural dye palette. This piece represents the tradition at its most accessible and enduring.
