The kilim is … Read more 4’ 6” x 4’ 11” Beautiful and colorful Turkish flat woven Sofreh kilim from the mid 1900s. The kilim is a “near square size” which is usually made as "Sofreh" which are rare. It has beautiful colors including bright colors of yellow, red, cranberry, tan, navy and blue. The Sofreh kilim was assembled by sewing together two different individually woven kilims on a “horizontal” loom and then sewed together to make the piece. The horizontal loom is used mostly by nomadic folks that move seasonally from lowlands to highlands to graze their herd and therefore a vertical loom would not be practical. It is truly an artistic creation by people that live in harsh conditions in the fields but still have the ability to create wonderful pieces such as this Sofreh.
