A beautiful early 20th century Persian Qashqai tribal area rug of great visual boldness and cultural authenticity — hand-knotted by the nomadic Qashqai tribes of Southwestern Persia, one of the most celebrated tribal weaving peoples in the entire Persian world. A triple medallion design in royal blue and golden yellow blazes across a rich dark red-burgundy field, while ivory corner spandrels covered in repeating paisley forms provide a lighter, more delicate counterpoint to the energetic central composition.
The Qashqai tribal confederacy, ranging across the highlands and plains of Fars province in Southwest Persia, produced rugs of extraordinary quality and a design vocabulary that balanced geometric boldness with exceptional refinement of color and detail. The primary navy blue border with ivory minor borders frames the composition with classical authority. The short pile and beautiful vegetable dyes give this piece the authentic tribal character that collectors of Persian tribal art prize most highly.
