47” x 55” Beautifully hand-crafted American Amish pieced cotton quilt in a “Sunshine and Shadows” pattern from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania circa the mid 1900s. The prominent colors in the quilt are blue, green with individual square block pieces in red, black and ivory color which are hand-cut and hand-stitched. The quilt has very fine hand stitching. The Amish community in Pennsylvania hand craft the quilts for their own use using the material that they had on hand. It is a beautiful example of an upcycling and reuse of material that has utilitarian functions but is also a representation of the art and culture that is woven into it. Please note that the color green is distorted in the photos and shows as blue. See the video.
