A beautiful late 19th century Persian Farahan Sarouk area rug, finely hand-knotted with a Persian Garden floral design of graceful elegance and refined naturalism. The ivory field is adorned with gracefully drawn vines and blossoms in shades of red, green, blue, and saffron yellow, creating a luminous and balanced composition of great charm. A deep midnight-blue medallion adds striking contrast, while the navy border with meandering vines and rosettes frames the rug with harmony and refinement.
The Farahan district of Western Persia gave birth to two of the most celebrated rug traditions of the 19th century — the classic Farahan village rug and the refined Sarouk Farahan, which represented the pinnacle of the region's weaving achievement. The Sarouk Farahan is distinguished by its ivory or light-colored fields adorned with graceful curvilinear floral designs, its extraordinarily fine weave, and the exceptional quality of its vegetable-dyed wool — qualities that have made these rugs among the most coveted antique Persian textiles in the collecting world.
