Exquisite Indian craftsmanship made of teak with decorative brass on a patinated surface. The brass fittings are hand-beaten, showcasing the exceptional skill of the artisans who created it. Unusual small size. Made during the latter part of the Mughal Empire, circa 1780.
Featuring beautiful and ornate brass hinges and decoration with a hinged lid. This wonderfully handcrafted brass and teak dowry box is a step into a rich cultural heritage. Historically, these wooden boxes, adorned with brass fittings, were given to a bride by her parents on her wedding day and contained valuables such as jewelry and money.
The box's unique shape mimics the sloped roofs of the local Hindu temples of the time. Its shape also symbolizes the bride's new home. A beautiful sentiment for the newly wedded, which shows how this dowry box was very meaningful to a very special someone!
