This Tibetan thangka depicts the Refuge Tree of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni Lamrim lineage. Lamrim represents the stages in the path to enlightenment.
Central figure is surrounded by smaller figures of Buddhas, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, teachers and monks from Gelugpa and other Buddhist sects.
The Thangka uses ground mineral pigment on thick silk in this case, and the whole functions as one of the principle meditational tools in Buddhist practice.
The piece is very beautifully hand painted in great detail (as can be seen in the close up photos), from the clouds up above to tree trunk and horses below. Quite a work of art.
Mounted on rich heavy brocade fabric - red, blue, orange and green. This could be removed from the fabric and framed.
Ready for hanging by a cord, the piece has 'a red and yellow curtain' that can shade/hide the image if required. Verso is plain red cotton.
