Carl Holty was a German-American abstract painter known for his contributions to modernist art and his role in the American Abstract Artists group. Born in Freiburg, Germany, and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and studied art in both the United States and Europe. Holty was influenced by Cubism, Abstract Expressionism, and Bauhaus principles. His early work was representational and later focused on pure abstraction with geometric forms, vibrant color fields, and lyrical compositions. A prominent figure in the New York art scene during the mid-20th century, Holty's work is in several major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney..
