Constantin Meunier (1831-1905) is a Belgian artist, renowned for his works representing the working world.
A student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels from 1848, he exhibited at the Brussels Salon from 1851.
He will endeavor to represent the working world, both in painting and in his sculptures: Meunier becomes one of the masters of a realistic and social art which is close to naturalism. It helps to give a face to the worker and participates in the of the new realities generated by industrial growth.
He interprets it through his dark and dramatic painting, then – from the mid-1880s – his bronzes with angular features.

His works are visible in various museums in Belgium, or at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
