A large, heavy (23lb) cast iron sculpture in the style of the Japanese School circa 1920 of the Chinese official, poet, and calligrapher, Toba. He is represented riding his mule, and holding a scroll, with great detail. The statue is in 2 pieces: the mule, and the rider, who is attached by an iron post into a hole at the back of the mule's saddle.
The cast Iron is decorated with patinated bronze, as well as cloisonne-type red enamel on the figure's clothing, and the mule's harness and reins.
