Vessels is a series of small-format acrylic works on paper exploring the intersection of form, function, and identity. Each shape evokes the outline of a container—ambiguous, familiar, yet undefined—inviting viewers to contemplate the idea of holding and being held.
Rendered with rich, layered backgrounds of warm ochres, burnt siennas, and vibrant reds or blues, the vessels themselves emerge as bold, dark silhouettes. Their presence is both solid and suggestive, standing as symbols of containment—of memory, emotion, or spirit. While the shapes may initially read as utilitarian, their abstraction resists direct interpretation, shifting the focus from what they are to what they might represent.
The vessels are not just objects, but subjects—each carrying a weight, a story, an essence. This series reflects on how we as individuals are vessels ourselves—shaped by environment, experience, and time. Some of us are chipped, some brimming, some sealed tight. But all of us hold something.
Vessel #6 is 15x15 inches. Acrylic on heavy weight acid free archival paper.
