At the bottom of the cups is a lithophane with a portrait of a geisha. These beautiful lithophane cups were first created in the late 1800s. The cups are thin, and the picture placed on the bottom of the cup is made using porcelain of various thicknesses. Most of these porcelain cups are made in the Kutani region of Japan.
Be sure to check the bottom of the cup for light!
If you hold it up to the light, you can see the lithophane of a geisha girl at the base of the cups. Lithophane (or lithopane or in French: lithophanie) is an etched or molded work of art on thin translucent porcelain that can only be clearly seen when illuminated from behind by a light source.
The security is good. No damage, no chips.
