A beautiful vintage Spode tea service for 8 in the popular Billingsley Rose pattern. This collection comes from one of England's best-known porcelain makers and features their classic rose design, named after William Billingsley, an English artist who changed how flowers were painted on fine china.
The variation in backstamps (red from 1926, green from 1930s, black from 1940s-50s) shows how this collection was built and expanded over several decades, which is typical of how these sets were passed down and added to within families.
This is a lovely collection with real history and character. It's perfect for display but still good enough to use for special occasions.
The Collection Includes:
- Teapot with red backstamp (1926) (note: lid is missing, some minor discoloration on base)
- Sugar bowl with lid with red backstamp (1926)
- 8 best condition tea cups plus 4 extra: 7 with red backstamp (1926), 3 with green backstamp (1930s), 2 with black backstamp (1940s-50s)
- 8 best condition saucers plus 3 extra: 7 with red backstamp (1926), 3 with green backstamp (1930s), 1 with black backstamp (1940s-50s)
- 8 dessert bowls: 1 with red backstamp (1926), 7 with black backstamp (1940s-50s)
- 8 salad/luncheon plates (8"): 4 with red backstamp (1926), 4 with green backstamp (1930s)
This set would be perfect for collectors of English porcelain or for anyone who loves to host a proper afternoon tea. The soft colors of the roses make it easy to match with many different table settings, whether you're in a formal dining room or a sunny garden room.
