Presenting a gorgeous, heavy Waterford Crystal Pyramid paperweight. There are several styles of Waterford paper weights, but this piece shows three, different, intricate types of cutting. Even the bottom of the pyramid is cut! Fabulous as a paperweight or on display somewhere it can catch the light.

This item is not marked: the Waterford mark was not introduced until the 1980s. Until then the crystal had a paper sticker.

Waterford Crystal was founded in 1783. It was named after a harbor town in Ireland. Waterford was set up by two brothers, George and William Penrose. Their goal was to create the finest quality crystal drinkware and decorative objects. Waterford soon gained a reputation for its exquisite glassware, particularly in regard to its purity and clarity of color..

Despite its success, the factory was forced to close in 1853, and Waterford’s production ceased for nearly 100 years. In 1947, two Czech glassmakers relaunched the company. Waterford was forced into receivership in early 2009, during the Great Recession.

Fiskars Corporation agreed to buy Waterfod and its holdings May 2015. Most Waterford crystal is now produced outside Ireland in countries such as Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Hungaryand Germany. See less
