A halo ring from the late Retro period (circa 1960) crafted in 18K yellow gold (750 thousandths). It features an oval Ceylon blue sapphire of approximately 2 carats (9.3 x 7.7 x 4.0 mm) set within a double halo. The first halo is adorned with 20 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling approximately 0.40 carats, while the second is elegantly enameled in midnight blue.
The ring is accompanied by a gemological report from GEM Paris, confirming the Ceylon origin of the sapphire with no observed modifications or treatments.
Among the most coveted gemstones in the world, Ceylon sapphire holds a distinguished place. Sourced from Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, this exceptional gem captivates with its deep blue hue and remarkable clarity. Adored by royalty and sought after by the world's most renowned jewelers, it embodies elegance, rarity, and refinement.
Ceylon sapphires have been mentioned in the writings of Arab and Persian travelers, as well as in Indian and Buddhist literature. It is said that even Marco Polo was mesmerized by the beauty of Sri Lankan sapphires.
For centuries, kings and emperors from both the East and the West have prized Ceylon sapphires for their unparalleled brilliance. These stones adorned crowns, royal jewelry, and talismans believed to bring wisdom and protection.
Ceylon sapphires remain highly valued in the precious gemstone market. Their rarity, exceptional quality, and rich history make them a secure investment for collectors. Unlike diamonds, whose price fluctuates with demand, blue sapphires maintain a stable market value and continue to appreciate over time—especially untreated natural stones.
