Blemishes and wear commensurate with age and … Read more Very rare 1920s Italian (per my grandmother) handcrafted and painted pottery rooster pitcher. Blemishes and wear commensurate with age and use, some were inherent in the piece when made. (see photos).
As a little girl my grandmother asked me to help water plants. She had a little metal container for me, and went to another room. I loved this piece and thought the rooster would like to help me water the plants. Happily going about helping, I heard a gasp and turned to see my grandmother wide-eyed. All she said was "I see you love beauty, but some things are to be looked at with our eyes and not our hands." It was how I taught my children so we could go into antique stores and the owners weren't stressed and watching them with eagle eyes.
