An antique cast iron fire starter, also known as a smudge pot, dating back to the late 1800s or early 1900s. It was used for safely and easily starting fires in fireplaces or wood stoves.
The Cauldron Kettle pot would be partially filled with kerosene or a similar fuel.
The pumice wand would soak up the fuel, be lit, and placed under the wood.
The pumice stone holds the flame longer than other materials, ensuring the wood catches fire.
It eliminates the need for excessive kindling or paper.
Some fire starters are referred to as smudge pots, mainly when used outdoors to keep crops warm The pumice wand measures 11.5”x2.25”.
