The chest is constructed from rich flame mahogany, showcasing a vibrant and striking grain pattern. The four drawers are fitted with original crystal knobs, adding a touch of sparkle to the deep, warm wood. The carved, twisted columns on the sides of the chest give it a stately presence, while the carved paw feet add both strength and elegance. These paw feet, along with the finely turned columns, contribute to the piece’s balanced and graceful appearance.

At the top corners of the chest, brass cups inset into turned wood fixtures are likely remnants of what were originally candle holders. This design feature, typical of the Federal period, would have served both a decorative and practical function.
