18th Century cobalt Shishi motif shapely octagonal baluster handmade Temple Urn tribute Of late 18th century. 18th century however it was bought at auction long ago and said to be of that era. It was purchased along with other pieces that were from as far back as 16th century which were easier to confirm so it likely is as stated.
Nicks, iron oxide marks, slight rippling effect from handmade work, and slight orange peel texture to the glaze as is shown in photos and to be expected from this age piece.
Traditional Ming blue and white glazing featuring Chinese Shishi guardian Fantail lion or Qilin protector mythical animals. Double ring border at base of urn vase body. Pointed finial top lid featuring geometric bordering at the octagonal lip as is traditional for this era.
Nicks, iron oxide marks, slight rippling effect from handmade work, and slight orange peel texture to the aged glaze as is shown in photos and to be expected from this era piece. Overall in great condition.
Similar size Urns in this style and make occassionally become available through retailers and dealers, Sotheby's, Christie's and so on for $2000 - $3500.

Their depiction on porcelain represents both protection and elevated status.
