"A native of South Carolina, Mott, as she is called by her friends, has lived her adult life in Charleston, SC. She is an alumni of the College of Charleston with a B.S. in Psychology. As a child she loved to draw but had it not been for her drawing class in College she might never have discovered her aptitude and talent, plus the joy that art brings. It became her off-duty hobby while working as a nurse and raising her family. After retirement she took more art classes, first from local artists, and from the Gibbes Museum of Art. Later as her interest grew she began studying with nationally accliamed artists. Her first out-of-town course was with
Doug Kingman of San Francisco. Later she added many more such as Christopher Schink, Alex Powers, Gerald Brommer and Serge Hollerbach to name a few. As she grew in her art it was apparent the she loved texture. She would often feel her paintings with her hands to make sure she could feel the texture. This love for texture eventually led her toward collage - a technique of integrating oriental papers into her paintings. Gerald Brommer, a California artist was very influential during her introduction to collage during the 80's. Her work is in collections all over the US and beyond. In addition to numerous awards, Mout is an exhibiting member of the Charleston Artist Guild and the Carolina Art Association."
