Foretay, representing a pirate on a rock in a lookout position, ready to attack. The sculpture, dating from the early 20th century, is richly detailed, capturing the essence of the character with precision. alfed foretay (1861-1944) the sculptor, painter and decorator alfred foretay is the author of a very diverse body of work. Best known for his contribution to the art nouveau movement, his participation in the orientalist movement is however far from negligible. He is an endearing artist, appreciated by collectors. He exhibited from 1888 to 1906 at the salon des artistes français. In 1891, he obtained an honorable mention and in 1904 a bronze medal. In 1900, he also won a silver medal at the paris universal exhibition. In 1911, he sent a group to the universal exhibition in rome.
