These elegant, finely carved, lacquered and gilded wooden consoles fully represent the taste that established itself in Naples at the end of the 18th century.
The consoles are triangular, lacquered in gold and have a marble top. The central foot below is carved with refined decorations inscribed in elegant frames and reserves. Medusa's head is carved in the centre.
In important Italian palaces, from the 17th century and then throughout the 18th century, consoles were among the most sought-after pieces of furniture, emblems of the patron's wealth, to be displayed in grand reception rooms. This type of highly decorative piece of furniture is still highly decorative today and contributes to the elegance and refinement of any room that houses it, whether modern or antique.
This pair of consoles is particularly bright thanks to the light colour of the lacquer and marble, intensified by the preciousness of the gold leaf.
