James Gale Tyler, (1855-1931) A beautiful painting of " The Water Witch " an American yacht in full sail.
Tyler was born in Oswego, NY in 1855 and settled in Greenwich , Ct.. He received his formal training from Archibald Carey Smith while in NYC. He enjoyed painting boats but loved old sloops and clipper ships. He was interested in America's Cup Races, traveling to Newport , RI every year between 1900 and 1930 to paint the annual race. His paintings are found in many private and public collections which include a number of museums
