Spectacular iconic and well-loved textile is named for the great Elsie de Wolfe, considered America’s first decorator. Elsie de Wolfe started decorating in 1905 and built an impressive career as a trusted tastemaker, surrounding herself with beauty and paving the way for generations to come. This iconic fern print from Scalamandre celebrates her love of leafy botanicals, featuring various layered ferns and romanticized roots on top of a solid ground. Her style would be best described as light, airy, comfortable, and tastefully whimsical. She rebelled against the dark, male-dominated dark and heavy aesthetic of late Victorian interiors, preferring to use tiled floors, light drapery, pale or white walls, mirrors, chinoiserie, light color combinations, and plenty of plants, all of which added to a fresh feminine touch to the interiors she designed. In fact, many felt like a garden conservatory room! A petite knotted green rope softly frames and pulls the darker green shades of this classic fern botanical on a soft cocoa brown ground. On the reverse, to continue her tradition is a silky taffeta shadow plaid, also from Scalamandre, in co-ordinating shades of green, gold and cream.Charming!
