Ken Beldin was born in Mississippi and studied at the University of California, Berkeley. During his career, he was the director of a successful ad agency in Los Angeles. In 1931, he left to travel through the Southwest. Beldin then worked with Mexico’s National Railways to promote travel tourism by rail. He fell in love with Mexico and set up a studio in Tenancingo South of Mexico City where he created one of a kind jewelry and sculptures. Beldin's motifs were drawn from pre-Columbian stones. During the 1940s and 50s, he used copper, brass, steel, wood and leather in his pieces. His work was collected by Hollywood celebrities and elite including Barbara Hutton, Edward G. Robinson, James Cagny and Sammy Davis, and was purportedly purchased by contemporaries Diego Riviera, Frida Kahlo, J. C. Orosco and Miguel Covarrubias.
