by the 1950s, lyfa had built an international reputation for high quality, original, modernist lamps. In the post-war period, the company collaborated with renowned architects and designers to produce minimalist, sculptural pieces, including these lamps.

the design of this model, made from brass, metal and crystal glass, is completely in the spirit of modernism, while maintaining the most important ideals of danish design, such as functionality. This can be seen in the construction of the lamps, which allows them to be turned either upwards or downwards. The proportions are carefully considered and the design consists of three main parts. The three elements - the brass base, the black metal shade holder and the crystal glass shade - are clearly separated by shape, material and colour. Most eye-catching are orrefors' crystal glass shades in a special shape that appears to be rolled. Orrefors has been part of the swedish design tradition since 1898. Glass from the forests of småland was incomparable: "il n'y as que ça!" (there is nothing like it!) at the 1925 paris world fair. As these sconces show, the glass and form are always in focus, combined with elegance, simplicity and confidence. The predominantly round shapes are balanced by the square backplate. The artistic design is very honest in a purely scandinavian way that also reveals the joinery and natural qualities of the materials.

this pair of “saga” wall lamps is a great example of how the 1960s is still able to deliver modern “art” to any interior. The manufacturer lyfa produced a number of cabin lamps and in its heyday - from the 1950s to the mid-1970s - was considered a pioneer in innovative architectural lighting. It is believed that kay kørbing designed this model for two training ships: m/s princesse margrethe and m/s winston churchill.

they measure approximately 35 cm in length, 12 cm in width and protrude approximately 14 cm from the wall. And they weigh approx. 1700-1775 grams each, nice lamps in good quality.
