The arcs and planes of the piece, and its … Read more A beautifully veined and sculpted modernist sculpture suggestive of a Torso. The arcs and planes of the piece, and its smooth surface are almost sensual. It has an organic, naturally formed, feel. The veining is both subtle and distinctive.

The piece presents differently from different angles. Ideally, it would be seen in the round.

The piece fits on what seems to be a bespoke wooden base. A small screw placed off-center on the top of the base, facing upwards, fits into a small hole on the bottom of one of the legs of the Torso. The piece is quite heavy but perfectly balanced. It stands on its own with this one small support.

We have tried to determine who the sculptor is. Obviously, he or she is/was very skilled. One clue may be the letters written on the base of the wooden block. They appear to be: Lurdoy or Gurdoy. Our research, to date, has not turned up a match. And, the "signature" is not on the piece itself.

Dimensions:
The sculpture is 8 inches wide; 3.5 inches deep, and 5.5 inches high.
The wooden base is 8 inches wide, 4.25 inches deep inches deep; and 2" high.

This is an exceptional form that seems alive and invites close examination. It would complement any modernist interior, a collection of mid-century sculpture, or it would fit harmoniously in a more traditional interior setting. See less
