Offered is a 1970s burnished ceramic duck, possibly pigeon shaped water jug/pitcher from Tonalá in Jalisco, Mexico and created by Ken Edwards - renowned for his studio, El Palomar. The province is famed for its earth-tone clay and for all the pottery and ceramic art created since the 1950s. The beak and tale have small pinholes so we are not sure if these are the intended spouts or if they are meant as openings to attach a wire or rope for hanging. The opening at the top would easily fit a cork stopper for this to be an actual water jug/canteen.
This piece has a soft blue base and a bird and flower motif in deeper blue, black, and cream on the front and back, typical of the region, as are the colors, made from natural tints native to the area. Hand-painted and burnished glaze. "AM, Mexico"
