Giacinto cerone (1957–2004) was a fiercely independent italian sculptor, uninfluenced by schools, movements, or trends. Born in melfi, he moved to rome in the 1980s, where he began an intense exploration of materials.
from 1993, faenza became central to his work, with ceramics as his expressive medium. At the gatti workshop, he created glazed ceramic pieces using unconventional yet powerful techniques, experimenting with a vast range of colors and forms.
cerone’s art was marked by visceral energy, working instinctively with wood, ceramic, plastic, metal, marble, plaster, and stone. His rapid, gestural approach conveyed raw intensity.
a solitary figure in sculpture, he rejected isolation, choosing instead complete artistic freedom. His work, always figurative yet never fully representational, left a mysterious, elusive presence. For cerone, art was a vital explosion—an urgent need to shape thought into matter.
