Although this shares a similar design with early tole plate warmers this was originally intended to be placed in front of a fireplace to block any popping embers and evenly distribute heat after it gets warm. The painted surface is absolutely superb with a pair of nesting pheasants in the center and still life fruit paintings at the corners amid an exceptionally rare green field with gilt leaves. Tole painting was originally developed as a finishing method to prevent tin objects from rusting. This novel technique made it possible to turn an everyday object into a hand painted work of art while extending the longevity of your investment. We have handled a tremendous amount of quality tole ware throughout our careers but nothing quite like this. The fender retains its original side handles that match the gilt paint, and it is nice and sturdy on 4 penny feet. The fender measures 36” wide x 18 3/4” deep (15 3/4” at body) x 19” tall. See less
