Sam Provenzano studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and in Paris. He later studied at the Hans Hoffman School in New York and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Mexico City. He had a long career and exhibited widely and was the recipient of juried awards including from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the de Young Museum, and the Whitney Museum of Modern Art among others. His work is held in the permanent collection of numerous museums including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the de Young Museum, Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento among others.
