Mid century italian highboard
buffet with internally illuminated
house bar, 2 doors and 3 drawers
in solid wood with rosewood … Read more Mid century italian highboard
buffet with internally illuminated
house bar, 2 doors and 3 drawers
in solid wood with rosewood veneer
and inlays, curved tapered
edges, in shellac high gloss. In the
bar hinged door is a copper engraving
on glass of the doge's palace in
venice. On top is a
marbled glass plate, also from
venice; the same type of glass can also be found
in the bar compartment.

italian designer furniture
from the art déco design era,
but modified in the late 1940s with scandinavian
design influences, in
the mid century modern era.

unfortunately, the highboard has no
marking, which was rather common in those
years, but
is attributed to fratelli rigamonti
after research, books and
catalogs and their unique
design style.

the older furniture creations
by rigamonti are known for their
columnar central feet.
with the scandinavian design
influence, slimmer, more elegant
curved legs were sometimes added at the end of the 1940s

with the familiar brass
shield, suggesting a collaboration
with ico parisi.

these examples are only rarely found at
. Rigamonti
apparently only produced
until the end of 1949.

dimensions are:
l 170 x d 52 x h 134 cm
door compartment width 45 cm
bar compartment width 69 cm

condition:
the buffet is used and
no longer "perfect". In addition to a
few regular age-related
signs of wear, there are e.g.
1. A few tiny
veneer chips on the drawer edges
at the top, but these are hardly noticeable
at all.
2. The elegant diagonally thin
tapered edges have a
few minimal dents. This
can also be forgiven for the beautiful
piece of furniture.

otherwise, the buffet is still in
really good to almost very good
condition for its age. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
