Chairs like this would often stand in the hallway and during the winter hay or straw was stored in the drawer which was then used as isolation in shoes during the cold winter. Hence the name höstol – hay chair. The chair is made by hand and in original condition with the first layer of paint which has become distressed after 200 years of use. Original drawer pull in brass to the drawer which is decorated with a fluted decor. The other sides are also decorated with flutes all the way around. Healthy and solid frame, made around 1860 in northern Sweden. See less
