Large Antique Green Background Indian Amritsar Carpet with Red Border. Keivan Woven Arts / rug / 13-0706 / 1920 circa Early 20th Century. / Antique Amritsar, Antique Agra.

This carpet was woven in Amritsar in the late 19th century and is the proud heir to the great tradition of Mughal court carpets produced there two centuries earlier. Seldom Amritsar carpets retain the perfection of design and saturated color of this rug. A center medallion design of lush, pale green, saffron, red, and ivory repeats rhythmically across the green ground. The square proportions are also quite unusual for a rug this unequaled.
