The painting is signed lower right, 1971 by Josephine D’Alvia (1913-2000). Oil on canvas in a wood frame with gilding and linen mat border. This is a 1971 depiction of the Montauk, Long Island, New York lighthouse. Much of the land has eroded since then. There is an inscription on the back of the canvas to a fellow Long Islander.
A collection of ‘Josie’s’ paintings was exhibited at the Sweetwater & SaltTide Art Gallery in Peekskill, NY on her 80th birthday.
Josephine was an untrained artist and author of The History Of The New Croton Dam, 1976. This book is in the Smithsonian Library. She resided in Croton On Hudson, NY.
In excellent condition, with period wear and patina, no serious damage or repairs.
