1940's monumental oil on canvas "Two Girls in the Garden" by listed New Hope artist Mary Sarg Murphy. Depicts portraits of two girls in white dresses surrounded by flowers in soft pinks and pastel hues. Signed in the lower right corner. Set in a simple green and gilt wooden frame. A similar painting is currently on exhibition at the James Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
Mary Sarg Murphy (1911-1986) was active in New Hope, PA and Nantucket. Studying portraiture in London, Sorbonne, Paris, the Art Students League, New York, the Phoenix Art Institute, and the New York School of Applied Design for Women, she became well known in the 1930's for illustration and later gained recognition for her portraits.
