Handmade in wool and originating circa 1920-1930, this 2x5 antique rug is a rare and exciting new curation in Rug & Kilim’s collection of American hooked rugs.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will note this piece is a special find among some of the most collectible rag rugs and the earliest forms of American folk art in our field—exemplary of the hooking process in the folksy, rustic charm and boho chic beauty it yields. This collectible piece features large-scale geometric patterns and motifs around a central diamond medallion, with a look almost resembling early works of Swedish Modernism the keen eye may admire. There’s a particular presence of aqua blue, cream, red and brown tones, with a warm and bright beauty that’s exemplary in the appeals of this weaving tradition—an unusual and extremely rare piece of Americana with vast design applications in its eclectic presence and versatile size today.
Condition:
This antique hooked rug further enjoys an overall good condition for its age and origin, with some mild wear consistent with its age and provenance.
