An unusual and intriguing set of four antique Japanese sake cups
Red lacquerware over wood with ceramic interior
The ceramic layer was applied onto the lacquered surface by using a special technique
Green slips over the gray/beige crackled ceramic surface
Gilt, hand painted floral decorations on the outside, over the red lacquer, slightly different for the four cups
Pretty and very stylish, in harmony with the exquisite Japanese aesthetics
Most likely made in Aizu, Fukushima Prefecture, renown for its lacquerware
Circa early 20th century, Meiji/Taisho period
Measurements: Approximately 2.75" top diameter x 1.25" high
Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. A minute flake to the rim of one cup. All original.
