An impressive portrait of Napoleon I, The Great in full regalia done in silk by the well known French artist Christophe-Elie GANTILLON (Active in Lyon 19th century). He is also known as the author of the 1859 comprehensive silk work treaty "Traite Complet de la Fabrication des Etoffes de Soie" in 4 volumes
This particular work is very RARE and UNUSUAL for being done in colors and signed lower left with initials C - E. G. by the artist himself.
A similar portrait of Napoleon I is known to have been made in 1849 for the 1851 Universal Exhibition in London, but rendered "En Grisaille" (Shades of Grey) unlike the full colors of the offered here specimen
Presented in a lavishly carved and gilded frame under glass, fit in a period Mahogany shadow box outer frame
Measurements: Approx. 15.5" x 13.25" x 2.75" overall; the image only is 8" x 5.75"
