A 1941 realist watercolor, titled "Grain Tower (Composition 1)" by Art Institute trained artist Louise Neusbaum. The watercolor bears an Art Institute of Chicago label (20th International Exhibition of Watercolors- 1941), Chicago, IL and a grease pencil inscription that reads 41/2034. The watercolor was likely submitted, but not selected for the exhibition, as the watercolor is not listed int he exhibition catalogue. It is nonetheless a beautifully rendered piece! Image size:

Katherine Louise Neusbaum Montgomery was born in Chicago in 1915. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1939 and also completed her Master’s Degree there. She was an assistant instructor of art at Christian College in Columbia, MO. There, in 1949, she met and married Clifford Montgomery, also an instructor at Christian College. At the age of 37, Neusbaum died in Chicago in 1952.
