El Lissitzki (1890 - 1941) was a Russian artist, architect and designer. He was one of the most important Russian avant-gardists of the early 20th century. Born as Eliezer Lasar Markowitsch Lissitzki, he studied architecture and engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt. El Lissitzky later held various teaching positions in Russia and worked with, among others, the avant-gardists Kazimir Malevich (1879 - 1935) and Marc Chagall (1887 - 1985). Lissitzky designed the “Model D61” chair for the international hygiene exhibition that took place in Dresden in 1930. Both of our examples were probably manufactured by the Tecta company in the 1970s/80s. The chairs are made of black-dyed plywood, armrests made of solid wood, backrests made of leather. The chairs are in good condition. Armrests and the seats were extensively refurbished and re-screwed by a professional restorer. There was a small repair spot in the seat of one chair, but this has almost completely disappeared after the restoration. The leather backrests are in their original condition. They have a beautiful but distinct patina. There is only a small patch on one chair - otherwise the leather parts have a good structure. Seat height 44cm. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
