With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this exceptional antique dining server. This example is among the finest which we have ever offered, and it is our sincere delight to now present it for the consideration of collectors across the country. The entire server is comprised of an incredible grade of figured mahogany with brilliant grain and a beautiful color enriched by a wonderful patina. The drawer cases are constructed with dovetailed yew wood secondaries and the backboard is comprised of a single cut of white pine. The back of the case features through tenon construction and centuries of oxidation consistent with the overall age of the server. The server is supported by six tall tapered legs styled in the Hepplewhite manner with the frontward facing legs designed with deeply reeded elements spanning the length. Each leg ends with a well defined spade foot executed with perfect technique.
The most impressive feature this server boasts is the right side drawer which functions as a full bottle drawer that is completely zinc lined to protect the wood from moisture and compartmented to hold nine individual bottles. The left side of the server features a cabinet door with plenty of interior storage space and the center drawer was designed to house silverware and other serving objects. We note some veneer shrinkage to the left side door which was expertly restored many years ago. The server is fitted with the original brass hardware including drawer pulls, rococo style escutcheons, and brass locks. The top has an interesting ovolo form and a band of satinwood inlay spanning the entire outer edge. The front of the server features band inlay along with a lighter tone string inlay and circular band inlay on both the left side door and right side drawer. Beneath the drawer are opposing spandrels which are expertly inlaid with either quarter fan elements or sunburst patterned paterae with darker toned accents achieved by submerging parts of the inlay in steaming hot sand. We could not be any prouder to offer this magnificent antique server and we have no doubt it will soon find its way into a deserving home where it will be cared for generations to come. The server measures 66" wide x 27 1/2" deep x 37 1/4" tall.
