magnificent french wall light made of ormolú, or mercury-gilded bronze, following the classic louis xvi style. Cruciform base structure, with edges worked in curves and countercurves. The central part is decorated with symmetrical floral motifs that seem to radiate from the core. The ornamental details are carefully chiseled, with embossed leaf and flower patterns covering the entire surface.
for some authors, louis xvi is a style with a markedly “feminine” tendency, and it should even have been named after “marie antoinette.” it contrasts with the louis it is characterized by lightness, harmony and proportion, leaving aside the heaviness and excess of the styles it follows. It stands as a more discreet and elegant style than its predecessor.
