The Tlingit are recognized for their weaving skills which is shown in the false embroidery in two bands encircling the basket. The bands have geometric shapes. The basket is of cylindrical shape and is finely woven using spruce root, bear grass, and maidenhair fern. The basket measures 4 1/2 inches in height by 6 inches in diameter across the top.

This basket was purchased at auction (sticker still attached) in the 1980s-1990s and appears old. An appraiser has declared the basket to be Tlingit, but no authentication of age or origin is available. Wear is apparent which would be expected for an older basket. It is in good condition.

This is a versatile piece which would look wonderful in the currently popular farmhouse style, a contemporary decor, or anywhere there is desire for warmth, smooth lines, texture, and an earthy element.

This item is sold as art and therefore should not be used in or around water or dirt, such as being used to grow plants. Clean with a light dusting. Do not use soaps, detergents or solvents. See less
