These beautiful and unusual vintage art glass lamp bases were discovered still packed in the original excelsior. Made by skilled artisans in the West German U.S. Zone during the reconstruction period after World War II in the late 1940's to early 1950's, they were found amidst a collection of fine glass lamp bases labeled "STAR CRYSTAL". They are high-quality and exhibit near-perfect execution in masterful glassmaking, glass cutting, and final enamel decorating and coloring, and are extremely artistic.
The green glass has a rich satin finish, and is of a strong thickness; the appliqué of gold and raised floral design in pink, blue and white are delicately exquisite. We see no imperfections. The vibrant tone of the green picks up light beautifully. We can imagine them making very striking appearance in a room with grey walls.
We have completed them with the parts and work necessary to accomplish their intended use as table lamps. The metal parts used to complete them as lamps, including shade finials, are mostly brass with some brass plated. The bottoms are felted. The new turn-key sockets, housed in all-brass shells, are 3-way. We are selling them without shades, though we show one with a shade in the photos.
Total height - 32 3/4 "; Glass is 18" tall, Neck 3/1/2 ", Harp and Finial - 11 1/2 "; Base is 7" in diameter as is widest point of glass. The lamps are substantially heavy.
