bronze figure on a cuboid base made of serpentine stone.
against a naturalistic backdrop, we see a young man wearing only a loincloth preparing his longbow for competition. The young athlete concentrates on what he is doing, looks down at his hands and is about to draw the bowstring.
we can almost imagine him lifting the heavy longbow and aiming it in the next moment. Standing in a lunge, his body is already slightly tense; in this preparation situation, the muscles of the legs in particular are clearly defined. As observers of the scene, we eagerly wait for the athlete to draw the bow and tense his upper body muscles.
the artist schmidt-felling's signature can be found on the naturalistic background.

julius paul schmidt-felling was born in berlin, in what was then the kingdom of prussia, in 1835 and died in 1920.
the sculptor's works primarily depict nudes, athletes, mythological warriors, workers and children playing.
many of his works were realized by the berlin art foundry gladenbeck, others by the small foundry robert kionsek.
