Guanyin statue in white-glazed porcelain, depicted in a position of royal relaxation.
Note the two different glazes, one cracked (for clothing), the other not.
This figure was made by Su Xuejin (1869-1919), one of the most talented porcelain artists in Dehua, active from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. His sculptures often feature meticulous detail and are full of energy. He is the founder of Yunyu cizhuang, a porcelain workshop dedicated to making religious figurines in the style of the master potters of the Ming dynasty.
Inscribed on the back “bo ji yu ren”.
I find (but this is only my opinion) that his face gives off both a feeling of great softness and tranquility, providing a certain reassurance.
A small chip in the dress, on the front.
China, very late 19th century.
