A gorgeous and rare pair of Georgian oak dining or occasional chairs in lovely antique condition. Most likely made in Wales around 1780, these fabulous and versatile chairs are dripping with antique charm and will add traditional Georgian oak quality and a quintessential refined-rustic Country Farmhouse aesthetic to any interior.
Traditionally crafted from quality oak showing gorgeous, richly aged colouring and beautiful grain patterning, this stunning pair are a more provincial and rustic interpretation of the highly refined Chippendale chairs of the period, and as such they beautifully blend a high-end aesthetic with a more rustic-farmhouse, user-friendly, country appeal.
The simplistic design of this stunning pair belies the exacting craftsmanship and skill involved in their crafting. Fairly compact relative to modern standards, making them suitable for many settings, this wonderful oak pair boast ornamental upper halves and robust lowers.
The upper parts feature attractively carved vase-shaped back splats silhouetted between gently curving and tapering back stiles, beneath lovely shapely crest rails, while the lower parts feature double-plank trapezoid seats supported by robust front legs and arching rear legs supported by double stretchers.
All in all this is a rare and wonderfully charming pair of Welsh oak vase-back chairs which exude antique country charm and will enhance any setting with their rustic and semi-refined Georgian appeal.
CONDITION
This super pair is in very good antique condition. Structurally sound and sturdy and crafted from excellent quality and now wonderfully aged and toned oak, they have to-be-expected minor knocks and bumps to show signs of their age and use, including a nibble to one chair’s crest rail ear and a small split at the bottom of a back leg. Overall they’re a wonderful rare pair in lovely condition and if well looked after they should be just as enchanting for generations to come – please see the photos.
