At 36" tall it is quite … Read more This is a beautiful early 20th-century carved African wooden fertility figure of a woman. At 36" tall it is quite impressive. Made of blackened carved wood -- a single piece -- it has wonderful detailing around the face and hands and feet. I am not sure of its exact provenance, but know it is at least 50 years old or more, and am guessing that it is a Baule piece from the Ivory Coast, based on comparisons with other similar figures I've seen on this site and others. I am pricing it very reasonably because I'm not sure, but similar ones that are not even as large are listed for twice as much, or even more. See less

I'm sure this could easily be restored, but I don't like to fool around with the original patina of an antique piece. I don't find that the worn spots detract from the beauty of the statue, and there are no faults or cracks in the piece -- it is strong and sturdy. Good vintage condition. less
